Several auto insurance policies are still sold on an annual basis. However to cater for differing needs amongst drivers, short term vehicle insurance is now available, providing cover for six months, 28 days or even 24 hours.
Temp cover in most parts of the world is defined as a short term automobile insurance policy lasting from 24 hours to twenty eight days. However, now flexible cover can be secured for between one to eight months.
To add to this, the popularity of pay as you go insurance is available. This gives the benefit of not having to pay for cover when it won’t be needed.
There are several situations where temp cover for one day may be required. One is making sure you are adequately insured when using a friends auto. Although you may be able to drive another vehicle on your annual policy, taking out an additional policy for this could protect any no claims bonus acquired. This could therefore be an economical option for careful drivers.
Temporary insurance also allows insurance to be provided for additional drivers sharing the driving on holidays and other longer journeys.
Protecting a visitor from abroad is another reason why taking out short term insurance may be necessary. As is needing temp cover when taking a new or 2nd hand motor home after purchasing it. Taking a test drive and requiring insurance for a weekend can be another eventuality.
Many people who drive a van, don’t actually own one themselves. This can be where 2 week car insurance is useful, when you are using a van for a range of situations.
For those bikers that are attending a biking convention or meet-up, tempcover could be useful if the bike you are riding is not one you use regularly. This could be cost effective if they only ride the bike occasionally.
